Originally established in Philadelphia in 1832 and re-launched in 2010, Bailey Banks & Biddle was the first jewelry retailer to offer online pricing and in-store service. The company’s website offers more than 20,000 diamonds from around the world at prices below those at traditional jewelry retailers.
Bailey Banks & Biddle was running an old AS/400 system for its retail POS. The system’s green screens and code-based interface made training a long process. There was no integrated inventory management between the POS and inventory in the warehouse, making it difficult to track down one-of-a-kind pieces and transfer among stores.
The old AS/400 system also could not keep up with demand as the company grew in size and needed up-to-date inventory and financial tracking capabilities. There was no way to streamline financial management, as store managers would have to wait until closing to run a payment processing batch at night. It was also difficult to track inventory, as inventory often varied among stores and customers expected a quick and easy transfer system from store to store.
Working to get diamonds to stores in the most cost-effective manner, Bailey Banks & Biddle decided Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail’s user-friendly interface and extensive tracking abilities made for the right system to track inventory and manage payments. Everything can be updated in real-time on Microsoft Dynamics Online.
These real-time updates make more information readily available, providing more visibility, especially with financial data. For example, credit card processing is completed immediately once a card is swiped, as opposed to waiting till the end of the day to run a batch process.
The flexibility of Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail in implementing test environments that are up to date and include all the current modules and permissions has sped up Bailey Banks & Biddle’s training process.
